Police are raiding what they will alleged is a massive hydroponic cannabis syndicate which has been cultivating the drug in at least eight homes — mostly rentals — from the Central Coast to Sydney’s west.

A woman was arrested in Bankstown this morning and a man at hydroponic set-up at Gorokan on the Central Coast.

Detectives began gathering intelligence on the alleged syndicate, who are largely of Vietnamese background, in May. The investigation came to a head this morning with up to 80 officers, including from Regional Enforcement Squads from Sydney’s northwest and southwest, searching the homes.

Properties raided so far are in Granville, Dundas Valley, Eastwood, West Ryde, Epping, Northmead and Gorokan.

Police have not ruled out raiding more properties today and further arrests as the investigation continues.

The Daily Telegraph understands the syndicate, which police will allege was well organised, used mainly rented properties to grow the cannabis.
